Rating Release
Agusto & Co. affirms Access Bank Plc’s ratings of “Aa” (long term) and “A1+” (short term), with a “stable” outlook and an ESG score of “2”.
The ratings expire on 30 June 2027
Agusto & Co. affirms the “Aa” (long term) and “A1+” (short term) ratings assigned to Access Bank Plc (“Access Bank” or “the Group”), Nigeria’s largest banking group, with operations across 16 African countries and six global financial hubs. Access Bank’s good liquidity position, good capitalisation and experienced management team were considered in the assigned ratings. The increased contribution of the foreign subsidiaries, which moderates exposures to Nigeria’s sovereign risks, was also considered a positive rating factor. However, the ratings are constrained by concentration in the loan portfolio, decline in profitability, uncertainties associated with the proposed changes in the regulation of financial holding companies and the challenging operating environments across several markets in which the Group operates. We have also attached a “2” ESG score, reflecting our view that environmental, social and governance issues have a minimal impact on the Group’s credit risk profile.
